Purpose: Under general direction, the Advanced Practice Nurse will be responsible for the reproductive health care of men and women under written standing orders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtains a relevant health history, including a comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic history, with emphasis on gender-based differences
  • Performs a complete or symptom-directed physical examination including obstetric and gynecologic conditions/needs that include, but are not limited to, pregnancy, benign and malignant gynecologic conditions, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, infertility, perimenopausal/menopause/postmenopause and other gender-specific illnesses
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats disease risk factors specific to women
  • Distinguishes gender differences in presentation and progression of health problems and responses to pharmacological agents and other therapies
  • Assesses social and physical environmental health risks, including teratogens, that impact childbearing  Assesses for evidence of intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, and substance abuse
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats issues related to sexuality
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats selected reproductive health needs or problems in males, such as sexually transmitted infections, contraception, reproductive health planning and infertility
  • Assesses genetic risks and refers, as needed, for testing and counseling 2
  • Performs reproductive health care procedures, including, but not limited to, pap smears, microscopy, post-coital tests, intrauterine device (IUD) insertion, and endometrial biopsies
  • Provides management and education for women and men in need of family planning
  • Recommends/initiates and/or performs medical screening procedures as specified in the standing orders
  • Recommends/initiates appropriate laboratory studies and interprets data
  • Assesses and refers clients with abnormal findings or problems to appropriate physicians for evaluation and consultation within guidelines as stated in the standing orders
  • Assesses contraceptive problems and adjusts modality accordingly
  • Issues health care supplies to clients
  • Recommends and initiates treatment for vaginal infections after exam or abnormal pap report according to standing orders
  • Upon determination of pregnancy, offers appropriate counseling and referral
  • Monitors client records with nursing staff to insure accuracy and inclusion of all appropriate findings and recommendations as needed
  • Participates in agency meetings and community educational programs
  • Function as staff nurse as required
  • Conducts individual and group counseling
  • Provides education in areas of health maintenance and reproductive health care
  • Assesses accurate billing codes for patient visits
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Skills:

  • Registered nurse with active New Jersey licensure
  • Successful completion of Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner/Certified Nurse Midwife education program with active New Jersey licensure, including prescriptive authority
  • Certified or eligible for certification as required in standing order
  • Current CPR certification
  • Maintains continuing education hours

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years OB/GYN related or public health nursing experience, preferred

Medical Administrative Assistant

Job Title: Medical Administrative Assistant

Payroll: Hourly/non-exempt

Purpose: Under general supervision and the direction of the clinical supervisor and or assistant clinical supervisor, the Medical Administrative Assistant is responsible for the delivery and continuity of health care services.

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to: Clinical Supervisor/Assistant Clinical Supervisor
  • Workers supervised: None
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Maintains a cooperative working relationship with clients/family members, agency staff, and community

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone calls, provide general information, schedule appointments, convey messages as needed
  • Greet clients and visitors
  • Client registration, insurance verification, sliding fee scale assessment, copay collection
  • Assist in maintenance of client flow during clinic sessions
  • Document in client chart/electronic medical record as required under Policy and Procedures
  • Maintain client confidentiality
  • Prepare client charts
  • Calculate total client fees accrued from clinic sessions and prepare end-of-day reports, reconcile fees collected with session reports, document monies collected in Daily Journal Spreadsheet, ensure that deposit is appropriately managed per “Journal Entry and Bank Deposit Policy”
  • File lab reports and referrals
  • Arrange for transfer of client records
  • Transport clinical supplies as needed
  • Prepare and store cultures/laboratory samples
  • Issue non-prescriptive supplies with appropriate counseling as directed
  • Serve on committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Skills:

  • High school graduate or equivalency
  • Completion of medical assistant program or equivalent, preferred
  • CPR certified or obtained within three (3) months of hiring, unless medical excuse provided
  • Computer skills, Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Telephone skills
  • Bilingual skills beneficial
  • Knowledge of use of office equipment (i.e., fax, printer, copier, etc.)

Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience in medical office preferred
